A game of poker is a card game where players put chips into the pot to bet on their hand. The person with the best hand wins the pot. There are different types of poker and each one has its own rules.
After each player is dealt two cards, a round of betting starts. This is usually triggered by 2 mandatory bets called blinds placed into the pot by the players to the left of the dealer.
If you have a pair of 3s, for example, and you think it will be difficult to improve your hand on the flop you could say hit me (to ask the dealer for another card) or stay (to keep your current cards). You should always be very clear when making a decision because it will have an impact on the rest of the players.
There are also words that can be used to increase or decrease your bet, such as fold, call and raise. You should try to be very clear when using these, especially if you are a new player, as it is considered bad form to confuse other players or hide your betting amount by hiding your chips.
The highest possible poker hand is a five of a kind, which consists of two distinct pairs of cards and a fifth card. If more than one hand has this, then the highest card breaks the tie. For example, five aces beats five kings and so on.
