A narrow opening or groove, as in a door, window, or other surface. Often used in the phrase “slot in.” The slots in the primary teeth of infants allow them to bite food.

In gambling, a space on a slot machine in which cash or, in “ticket-in, ticket-out” machines, a paper ticket with a barcode are inserted to activate the machine and begin a round of play. When the reels stop spinning, if a winning combination of symbols is found, the player earns credits according to the machine’s pay table. Typical symbols include fruit, bells, and stylized lucky sevens. Most slot games have a theme and bonus features that align with that theme.

(computing) A space on a disk or in memory in which a specific type of object can be stored. The game offers four save slots.

Football
